I could really picture Savannah and John in Dear John. Even though I saw the movie before I read the book I could picture two different characters while reading the book. The movie characters and my own characters. I could picture them when they were together and when they were apart. I could see the first time John taught Savannah how to surf and how well she did her first time. This book was so good that I could picture everything in my head without thinking about the movies idea.
When I read the book I already new that they weren't going to end up together because someone ruined it for me (SYDNEY) but I still wanted to believe that they would end up together in the end. I predicted that Tim and Savannah were going to end up together in the end because throughout the book I could tell that they have feelings for each other, but they didn't express it like John and Savannah. In the end they did end up together after all. I was sad because I really felt that John and Savannah had something better than Savannah and Tim.
The character that I related most to was Savannah. As much as I hate her decision in the end of the book I still feel like me and her are kind of a like. She's really passionate about helping autistic kids. I'm not as passionate as her and but I do like helping kids who need a little more help than others. I really feel like if she was real I would be really good friends with her. She loves the outdoors and horses. I do too(: As much as I don't like her character in the book I still think we have the same interests.

  1. Sorry if I ruined the book for you Tia, I didn't mean to, but I'm glad you still read it

  2. I am glad you still read it, too! It would have been sad to miss out on something that you obviously loved so much!

Tia, I think you and I have about the same girly, romantic brain. Because I had read so many Nicholas Sparks books, I KNEW they weren't going to get together in the end-- and like you, I still held out hope. I actually almost wanted to stop reading when they were still together so (at least in my head!) they would be together forever.

I think your prediction about Tim was pretty dead-on. John kept seeing "the looks" Tim was sending Savannah's way and I thought to myself that there had to be a reason why Nicholas Sparks would have John see and explain those looks.

I was ticked at Savannah just like you were as I also thought she should have waited for John. It's not like he just broke his promise on a whim...he was protecting the country after the biggest terrorist attack in history!

I know you are too young to know how she must have felt but I've been there. My husband and I have done the long-distance thing and I think it's crap that she couldn't do it...when you love someone, you get through it because you know what's on the other end! One day you'll totally understand what I mean and I know (wink) that you'll agree with me.
